Friday night was a big night for rookie Nolan Winter as he was awarded three of the eight trophies handed out at the Uxbridge Bruins' annual year-end banquet.

Winter, one of the youngest players on the team, had a modest season when it came to scoring: the forward notched seven goals and six assists in 39 games played in the regular season and one goal and two assists in four playoff games. However, his coaches and others obviously saw something else in the young man from Ajax.

As a result, the team awarded him the most improved player award and the Bob and Dorothy Pollard award. The Pollard award recognizes a player for Bruins "pride." Similarly, the media award, also known as the Spirit of the Bruins award, was awarded to Winter by Roger Varley of the Cosmos and Darryl Knight of the Standard to reflect his dedication and team effort.

The most valuable player award went to Quiin Meek for the second year in a row. Meek scored 31 goals and 20 assists in 42 regular season games and added a goal and an assist in the short-lived playoff round. Lucas Marshall was handed the Ron Cordingley Memorial Trophy, which the Bruins liken to the NHL's Lady Byng trophy. The Ivan Cox Memorial Award, presented to the leading defenceman, went to Owen Shier while the rookie-of-the-year honours went to Jason Koehler. Captain Alex Hyde was presented with the Coaches' Award.

Hyde and Meek were joined by Anthony Lamanna and Ty Roberts in saying goodbye to the Bruins, all now being over-agers.
