Council to court Hollywood

Roger Varley, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Chief Administrative Officer Kristi Honey introduced a report to council on Monday, calling for the establishment of a team to bring the film industry to Uxbridge.

In her report, Honey said that marketing Uxbridge "as a preferred film location" can bring economic benefits to the township. She pointed to the success of the Schitt's Creek television series, which was filmed partially in Goodwood,

The CAO told council that a first step would be to appoint a filming location agent, something she said the film industry recommends. She suggested a pilot run of six months, with the consultant being paid an eight-per-cent commission on the bookings for township-owned properties. She said eight per cent is the standard industry rate. Honey said funding for the project would come from operational surpluses.

Popp said he thought a one-year pilot would be preferable to six months, but Mayor Barton said he would like Honey to provide a progress report after six months.
