Fall Fair reminds patrons - ‘no backpacks’

It’s tradition in Uxbridge - the weekend after Labour Day is always reserved for the Uxbridge Fall Fair.

This year’s fair, to be held Sept. 8 through 10 at Elgin Park, is almost ready to go, with an appropriately agricultural theme of “We’ve Got A Good Thing Growing.”

Fair organizers would like to remind Fall Fair visitors that there this a strict “No Backpacks” policy in place. The policy was implemented last year after consultation with the Township, police and fair security, and the decision was taken in the interests of public safety and well being of our valued patrons.

“Our longtime goal has been the presentation of a family friendly event,” said a recent statement from fair organizers.

On the programme front, chainsaw carver ‘Timber Ripper’ is returning this year, promising to entertain throughout the weekend with his skill and expertise.

Among the returning favourites is Mark Hendy with his historical farming and agricultural displays, a popular attraction that is both interactive and educational.

Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue will be at the fair on Saturday and Sunday.

A full slate of entertainment is scheduled for the Rotary Bandshell, complete with a talent show.

“It’s a great opportunity for kids and youth to perform for an audience and possibly even win a trophy and a small prize,” says talent show organizer Nia Hachey. First place winners in each age group are also invited to return later in the weekend to perform again. All talents are encouraged, and can include singing, dancing, doing yo-yo tricks, comedy, or playing an instrument. Email niakinghachey@gmail.com for talent show information.
