Grizzlies’ hike helps hunger and sportsmanship

The Uxbridge Grizzlies 11U baseball team is supporting the Uxbridge Loaves and Fishes Food Bank with its Hike for Hunger on Sunday, July 7.

Head coach Lucas Hunter, says the team always tries to give back to the community each season.

“It’s important to our coaching staff that we are teaching our kids about the importance of community and what it means to be a part of a representative sports team,” says Hunter.

The Hike for Hunger will be held at the Uxbridge Countryside Preserve, meeting at the trailhead parking lot behind Walmart at 10 a.m., on July 7.

The Grizzlies say this will be a “leisurely hike” and will go ahead rain or shine.

Non-perishable donations will be accepted at the Hike for Hunger, and at two in-town locations leading up to the hike, Uxbridge Family Dentistry and the Uxbridge Ford Dealership.

“Competitive sport is more than just teaching our players about the game of baseball,” he says. “It’s about developing and coaching our athletes to allow them to grow into strong, confident and responsible young adults.”

The Grizzlies Hike for Hunger is open to Uxbridge residents and visitors alike on July 7.
