Hockey All-Stars lacing up to help hospital in inaugural tourney

This Thursday and Friday, (Oct. 3 and 4), more than 140 local hockey enthusiasts will join forces with some well-known alumni players at the first-ever Uxbridge Hospital Celebrity Hockey Classic. The tournament, presented by TCG National, is supporting the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation and its campaign to build a new hospital.

Among the former NHL hockey players taking part in the two-day event are All-Star players Wendel Clark and Dave Ellett, as well as Stanley Cup winners Gary Roberts, Doug Gilmour and Brad May.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to come play hockey in Uxbridge alongside my fellow NHLers and members of the Uxbridge community,” says Clark. “Beyond sharing some great moments on and off the ice, it is a privilege to play and support such an important cause for Uxbridge. This community's dedication to and passion for their hospital is nothing short of inspiring, and I’m looking forward to doing our part to make a meaningful impact for its future.”

On Thursday, guests will participate in an exclusive draft party at Mill Run Golf Club, where each team will recruit one of the celebrity NHL players to join their team while enjoying food, a live and silent auction, and a hot stove hosted by Rod Black featuring the NHL guests. On Friday, beginning at 8 a.m., at the Uxbridge Arena, teams will lace up for a friendly two-game tournament, while the top fundraisers will go head-to-head with the NHL alumni in an All-Star game.

The Celebrity Hockey Classic will benefit the hospital foundation, with a total fundraising goal of $280,000. Funds raised will help the hospital secure tools, equipment and build infrastructure.

“Uxbridge is honoured to play host to these NHL superstars as we come together to support our community hospital,” says Jim Williamson, chair of the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. “Events such as these bring the community together behind our vision for Uxbridge’s future. Our participants are ensuring we can provide excellent care right now, close to home, and they will pave the way for a brighter, healthier tomorrow for every patient, family and neighbour who calls Uxbridge home.”
