Project manager hired for new animal shelter

Following a report from clerk Debbie Leroux, Uxbridge council agreed Monday to hire a local company as project manager for the planning stage (Phase 1) for the proposed new animal shelter. Leroux recommended that M&M Construction Services Ltd. of Maple Street be awarded the $40,000 contract.

Leroux' report said two companies applied for the contract and M&M was chosen after interviews. The report said Phase 1 "will help identify a process, potential scope, costing, and approximate timelines for the project for Council’s future approval to move to the next phase."

The contract is the result of a recommendation made by a steering committee established by Uxbridge and Scugog townships, which developed a job description for the position. Uxbridge's representatives on the steering committee are CAO Kristi Honey, regional councillor Bruce Garrod and Leroux. The report said it was the steering committee that recommended M&M. Honey said M&M has experience in managing commercial and residential construction.
