Region collecting Christmas trees in January

When the holidays are over, Durham Region will provide its annual curbside collection of natural Christmas trees. Natural Christmas trees will be composted with leaf and yard waste.

Natural Christmas tree collection will take place in the Township of Uxbridge on Monday, Jan. 6, and Monday, Jan. 13. Unfavourable weather conditions may delay collection; please leave natural Christmas trees out for collection on your scheduled date.

Please note the following curbside set out specifications:

All tinsel, decorations, wire, plastic bags, lights, tree skirts, nails and stands must be removed from the tree.

Trees must be set out by 7 a.m. on your collection day, but no earlier than 7 p.m. the evening before your collection day.

Trees set out in plastic bags will not be collected.

Trees exceeding three metres (10 feet) must be cut in half for collection.

Ensure trees are not buried in snowbanks or frozen to the ground. Trees that are frozen to the ground or buried in snowbanks will not be collected.

Do not place Christmas trees on top of, or behind snowbanks – ensure the tree is fully accessible for collection.
