Stabbing suspect in custody

Durham Regional Police report a Stouffville man is being held in custody following a stabbing in an Uxbridge restaurant on Monday.
Officers from North Division were called to a restaurant at Douglas Road and Toronto Street South after two men engaged in an altercation. Police said the suspect chased another man to a nearby business, where employees intervened. During the struggle to restrain the suspect, an employee was stabbed and suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Uxbridge Hospital. Other staff members disarmed the man and took control of the suspect until police arrived.
The suspect also suffered minor injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area hospital.
The suspect is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. Police said he is being held for a bail hearing. The accused’s name is being withheld to protect the victims’ identities.
