It was with tremendous sadness that the Uxbridge Bruins recently announced the passing of their longtime club president, Cam Stewart, at the age of 78. Cam passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 4, with his wife, Alice, and their family by his side.

Cam Stewart

Stewart was a pillar of the Uxbridge community, dedicating much of his life to making it a better place. Known for his kindness and generosity, Stewart’s commitment to the Bruins was unwavering. Every Friday night, he could be found at the Bear Den gate, warmly welcoming fans and ensuring everything ran smoothly. His presence at the rink was a steadying force, and he relished the excitement of game nights, engaging with fans and friends alike.

Beyond his local impact, Stewart was a fierce advocate for the PJHL, working tirelessly to promote and develop junior hockey across Ontario. His efforts were instrumental in growing the sport and providing opportunities for young athletes. He was a particularly strong advocate for players to enter into trades, and could cite several successful examples from his decades of volunteer work with the Bruins.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of Cam Stewart’s passing,” said local MPP and Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy, a frequent guest at Bruins games in recent years. “Our community has lost a giant. My thoughts are with his family and many friends at this difficult time.”

Away from the rink, Stewart was a devoted family man and lifelong farmer. He played hockey and baseball for many years, coaching his children's teams and later enjoying time with his grandchildren. Stewart had a long career at Bell Canada before starting his own consulting company focused on driver and forklift training. He was also deeply involved in his community, serving as chairman of the Goodwood Cemetery Board, an active church member, and a regular participant in community fairs with his prized goats and loving wife.

“He was a true gentleman, wonderful volunteer, a supporter of his community. Cam will certainly be missed,” commented former Uxbridge mayor Gerri Lynn O’Connor.

Cam Stewart’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, the Bruins organization, and the entire Uxbridge community. His spirit, hard work, and legacy will continue to inspire and influence future generations. The Uxbridge Bruins and their supporters will fondly remember Cam Stewart and honour his contributions for years to come, ensuring his legacy lives on.
