The 1st Uxbridge Scout Group recently wrapped up another remarkable year, marking 102 years of Scouting in the community. With a record-breaking 112 youth and 36 Scouters participating in the 2023-2024 Scouting year, the group continues to thrive, offering young people the opportunity to learn, explore, and serve.

From camping trips and paddling excursions to international travel, 1st Uxbridge Scout Group kept the adventurous spirit alive. The Venturer Company took an unforgettable trip to Iceland to attend the Icelandic Jamboree, while local camping trips spanned locations such as Langley Park Scout Reserve, Haliburton Scout Reserve, and Arrowhead Provincial Park. The group's activities encouraged leadership, resilience, and a love for the great outdoors.
This year, 1st Uxbridge also launched the "Adopt a Park" initiative, spearheaded by Group youth commissioner Kathryn Marlatt. The initiative allows organizations and families to take stewardship of local parks, ensuring cleaner and safer green spaces. The group's ongoing commitment to environmental conservation also earned it the prestigious Ernie Crossland Young Conservationist Award for its efforts in tree planting, litter clean-ups, and battling invasive species.
Several youth earned prestigious awards recognizing their dedication to skill-building and community service. The King’s Venturer Award, Chief Scout’s Award, Seeonee Award, and North Star Award were presented to outstanding youth who demonstrated excellence in leadership and outdoor adventure skills.
The group continues to expand its community presence and is actively seeking new volunteers to support its programs. Additionally, as current Group Commissioner Craig Marlatt nears the end of his term, we are actively searching for a new Group Commissioner to begin transitioning into the role this fall.
The group also has a long-term vision of securing some land close to town on which to store equipment and establish a dedicated Scouting space. With continued support from local businesses, organizations, and the community, the 1st Uxbridge Scout Group is determined to provide even more opportunities for youth to grow, lead, and explore.
