Visit the farm almost every day at ‘Sundays’

A new restaurant called Sundays will be opening in downtown Uxbridge this weekend.

Located in the former Tin restaurant, the new venue will be what co-owner Ben Denham calls "a farm-to-table bistro."

Denham, who says he has been in the restaurant business for 30 years, said the owners have a farm near Sunderland which will provide the restaurant with fresh produce.

Asked where the name of the restaurant comes from, Denham said the eating experience "will be like going to the farm on Sunday."

Denham started as a dishwasher when he was in Grade 8 and later attended culinary school at Humber College and apprenticed in French cooking.

Sundays will be open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunches and dinners, with just lunches being served on Sundays. Denham said the restaurant will have about a dozen employees.

Denham described his menu as "simple food and warm service," but with a strong focus on sauces. He noted that the menu will change constantly to reflect the seasons and food availability. The restaurant will have a liquor licence.

He said reservations will be recommended for the 28-seat restaurant, but added: "We won't be rushing people in and out."

The restaurant will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Denham, who grew up in Fenelon Falls, said he has wanted to be a part of the Uxbridge community for a long time.

"I want to make a good impression," he said.
