Wall of Fame welcomes seven new inductees

Seven new inductees were named to the Kinsmen Club's Wall of Fame on Friday at a ceremony at the Uxbridge Seniors Centre. It was the second induction ceremony honouring Uxbridge residents past and present for their accomplishments.

Barry Timbers was recognized for his success in baseball, curling and competitive plowing. Between 1966 and 1979, Timbers played in six Ontario fastball championships and two Canadian senior fastball championships, in three Ontario curling championships and a fistful of provincial and Canadian plowing championships.

Swimmer Victoria McDonald competed in the 2016 provincial Special Olympics, winning three gold medals. two silvers and a bronze. In 2018, she won five gold medals at the Special Olympics national games.

Donald Dunkeld participated in numerous plowing matches over 70 years and was named Canadian champion twice.

Alex Williamson was inducted for his community involvement, which included sponsoring many local sports teams, serving with local school boards and being named Uxbridge citizen of the year.

Two sports teams were also honoured. The Uxbridge Juveniles hockey team of 1966-67 and 1967-68 were coached by former councillor Jack Balllinger with Ron Cordingly managing. In the 1966-67 season, the team won the Lionel Conacher Trophy and was named the All Ontario B Division champions. In 1967-68, they won the All Ontario C Division championship. The 1972 Williamson Impalas Bantam girls softball team won 37 games and lost seven and went on to win the Ontario championship.

And finally Bob and Dorothy Pollard were recognized for their work over many years with the Uxbridge Minor Hockey Association and the Uxbridge Bruins. which they founded. The Pollards were also honoured earlier this year when the Bruins unveiled the new Bob and Dorothy Pollard Trophy.
