Bruins elect new executive

A new volunteer executive board was voted into office last Wednesday by the Uxbridge Bruins Junior C club. Jason Simmonds, the team's general manager, was elected president, replacing Cam Stewart, who died suddenly a few weeks ago.

Terry Sovie was returned as vice-president and Elaine Cox continues as secretary, while Alene Swan was named treasurer. Named to the board of directors were Chris Lombardo, Darryl Knight, Zack Kingston, Allison Winter, Brian Fowlow, Kass King and Matt Morrison.

Knight told the Cosmos that Simmonds' elevation to president means the club now has to search for a new general manager. Meanwhile, however, preparations for the next season will continue.

Sovie told the meeting that the new board "has to pull together as a team, just like on the ice."

On the ice, in memory of Cam Stewart, the Bruins will feature Stewart's initials on their helmets when the next season begins.
