Bruins snap losing streak

After losing four games in a row, the Uxbridge Bruins posted a victory last Friday at the arena, downing the hapless Caledon Golden Hawks 6-3.
Although the Bruins doubled their opponent's score, the Golden Hawks, who have won only one game so far this season, kept pace with the home team until the third period.
Caledon opened the scoring early in the first period, only to see the Bruins respond with two short-handed goals in a row. Nolan Winter notched the first, assisted by Tristan Vedovat-Leite, and Ryan Shier scored the second a couple of minutes later, assisted by Luke Kemp and Tyler Laita. However, Caledon evened the score with a power-play goal less than 30 seconds before the end of the period.
The only scoring in the second period came at the halfway mark from Brandon Scott, assisted by Evan Gilbert and Colin Glecoff.
Early in the third period, Caledon tied the score again, but then the Bruins lowered the boom and scored three unanswered goals. Lucas Marshall scored what proved to be the game-winner, assisted by Jack Kemp, and that was followed late in the period by Laita's marker, with Gilbert and Luke Kemp credited with assists. Scott rounded out the game with a power-play goal as the period wound down, assisted by Tom Nitsoploulos and Jake Rigillo.
The Cosmos selected Scott as player of the game for Uxbridge and Anton Smirnov for the Golden Hawks.
Now the Bruins are faced with three games in three nights: tonight (Thursday) they visit Clarington to take on the league-leading Eagles; then tomorrow (Friday) they host the second-place Georgina Ice at the arena at 7:45 p.m., and that will be followed by a Saturday night game against the Merchants in Little Britain.
