Monday Morning Singers celebrate 24 years

Monday Morning Singers are marking their 24/25th season with a month-long celebration in November.

Until Nov. 20, Jane Buckles’ whimsical concert posters will be on display and for sale in the Blue Heron Studio. Buckles has created the posters for every concerts.

On Friday, Nov. 8, the group held a drop-in evening at the Blue Heron Studio for current and past members, and enjoyed music, refreshments and reminiscences, surrounded by Buckles’ posters.

On Monday, Nov. 18, the choir will host an all-day choral workshop with Elise Naccarato, choral conductor of the Myriad Ensemble from Burlington.

Finally, on Friday, Nov. 29, the choir will present its Christmas concert, a performance dedicated to Uxbridge actor Kenneth Welsh, to honour his generosity to the choir. (Welsh passed away in 2022.) Maggie Anderson, who grew up in the Uxbridge artistic community, was mentored by Welsh, and will recite excerpts from A Child’s Christmas in Wales, as Welsh did for many years throughout Uxbridge. Anderson will also sing the solo parts in Vincent Lubeck’s Christmas Cantata. The highlight of the concert will be a special gift to the choir and the community - the world premiere of “Long Long Ago,” a piece commissioned by the choir from internationally recognized composer Sarah Quartel. The choir will also welcome early music performers Alison Melville and Tatsuki Shimoda, from the Toronto Early Music Consort and Tafelmusic Orchestra.
