NASUS contract didn’t need tenders, says township

Roger Varley, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Township clerk Debbie Leroux has told the Cosmos that public tenders were not required before awarding a $40,000 contract last week to a local company to plan Phase 1 of the new animal shelter. Leroux said a committee composed of Uxbridge and Scugog representatives sent out a number of invitations for companies to be interviewed for the contract but only two responded: Independent Project Managers and M&M Construction Services. She said she could not recall how many invitations were sent.

The township's procurement by-law allows for a department head to award a contract without tender if certain criteria are met. The by-law says only the approval of the chief administrative officer and the treasurer are required for contracts in the $10,000-$100,000 range. After conducting interviews, the animal shelter contract was awarded to M&M Construction services of Maple Street, Uxbridge.
