Cleanup operations are expected to begin at the Uxbridge railway yards in a couple of weeks.
Clerk Debbie Leroux said this week that the removal of equipment and refuse left behind after the demise of the York-Durham Heritage Railway should begin soon, but the township is waiting for a bid to remove the remains.
Rolling stock, workshops, portable toilets, sheds and other refuse were left behind after YDHR filed for bankruptcy at the end of last year. YDHR was given until April 30, 2024, to dispose of its property.
In its bankruptcy filing, YDHR listed its liabilities at $2,071,632 and its assets at $859,754. Among its liabilities were wages owed to dozens of young people who worked for YDHR during its special themed events. Attempts by the Cosmos to reach the bankruptcy trustee, B. Riley Farber, to find out whether any equipment has already been sold or whether any of the people owed wages have been paid, were unsuccessful as of press time.
