Police called to Goodwood residence for second time

Early Saturday morning, Durham Regional Police were called to a residence on Deer Ridge Road in Goodwood to investigate reports of the sounds of gunshots. Police say they were also called to the same area earlier in November for “a similar incident.”

Shell casings were recovered at both scenes; however, no injuries have been reported. The motives behind these shootings remain under investigation. It is believed that the home involved in this incident was mistakenly targeted.

According to a statement issued by DRPS, this year has seen a 33 per cent increase in shootings, and describes this is a “disturbing trend that significantly impacts” the Region of Durham.

“We want to assure the community that each incident is taken seriously, and we are committed to holding those responsible accountable,” says the statement. “We encourage the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact A/D/Sgt. Naccarato of the North Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 x 2677. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
