Transitional housing opens in Beaverton

At the start of Monday's council meeting, regional councillor Bruce Garrod played a brief video showing a new transitional housing project for North Durham that has opened in Beaverton.

The project, which can accommodate up to 47 people, provides temporary housing, meals and other support for people in need to help them on their way to finding permanent housing. The modernistic building features community rooms, gardens, kitchens and accommodation.

Garrod said the facility is already at 85 per cent capacity.

Beaverton Heights, as its known, is operated by Blue Door, an organization that provides services to those experiencing or are on the brink of homelessness.
