Greenbank Folk Music Society hosts Paul Pigat, Melissa Payne
Submitted by Brian Logan
Someone very special - Paul Pigat - will be performing at the next Greenbank Folk Music Society get-together this Saturday, March 22.
Pigat is special because one day, this amazing Vancouver guitarist and songwriter can be furiously picking his guitar in the same rockabilly style as his alter ego, Cousin Harley. The next day, Pigat can be equally as energetic and comfortable in a jazz club, adding guitar licks to jazz standards alongside his quartet, the Daily Special.
Paul Pigat plays at the Greenbank Hall on Saturday, March 22, as part of the Greenbank Folk Music Society’s lineup for 2025. He will be joined by Melissa Payne. Submitted photo
But Pigat says the genres of rock and roll and jazz aren't worlds apart
"There's always been crossover with that music," Pigat told host Margaret Gallagher on CBC's Hot Air show."There has to be an understanding of harmony, and there has to be some kind of complex harmonic system that goes with it."
Pigat has shared the stage and lent his guitar mastery to some fine musicians over the years such as Jeff Beck, Jackob Dylan, Michael Kaeshammer, Albert Lee, James Burton, Brian Setzer, The Reverend Horton Heat, Neko Case, Jim Byrnes, The Sojourners, Carolyn Mark… this list could go on and on!
Pigat's show will be a lively affair, featuring a seamless mix of tunes to liven up our spring night. Be there!
