Security officers named new by-law officers

Roger Varley

At Monday’s council meeting, council passed a by-law naming three employees of Synergy Protection Group, a private security company, as municipal law enforcement officers.

Synergy provides security for a townhouse condominium complex at the south end of Cemetery Road. Because the complex is designated private property, Uxbridge's by-law officers are not allowed to hand out tickets for illegal parking on the complex's two roads, although they can issue tickets to any vehicle blocking a fire route. Making the Synergy employees municipal law officers gives them the right to hand out tickets for illegal parking.

Several employees of the company were named as by-law officers a couple of years ago. Clerk Debbie Leroux said it is likely some of those people are still registered as by-law officers, even though they may no longer be security officers with Synergy Protection Group.
